AED Maintenance

Owning a defibrillator is one thing; ensuring it’s maintained and rescue-ready is another.

Check that your AED is functioning properly by following these 3 easy steps!

Step 1 – Ensure the Rescue Ready status indicator on the handle is always green.

Step 2 – Check the expiration date of the electrodes. If the electrodes are inserted correctly, the expiration date should be visible through the front window of the AED.

Step 3 – Open the lid of your AED and check the battery status. Cardiac Defibrillators’ batteries have a 5 year life-span, represented by the 5 bars on the battery gauge. Each green bar represents approximately 1 year of life remaining, so if your device is only showing 1 green bar then it’s time to order a new battery.
